Holidays - Bah Humgay

Anyone who knows me can attest that I am not a big holiday person. I don't know if I was Amish or Jehovah's Witness in a former life, or if I have some genetic flaw but I am just not attached to holidays. Last year, I didn't even do anything for my birthday. Like nothing. At all. And I was perfectly happy! But this bothers a great many people. They don't fathom NOT LOVING holidays. Here's how the conversaton usually goes:

Person- Aren't you SO EXCITED ABOUT (insert upcoming holiday here)

Me- Meh. 

Person- I mean you have to be super excited!!!! What're your BIG HOLIDAY PLANS??

Me- Umm, I don't really have any plans

Person- OMG!!! What?? Who doesn't LOVE (insert holiday)??????????

Me- Me

From there it usually descends into some bizarre counseling/cheering session. Explaining why they LOVE the holiday, why I SHOULD love the holiday. Basically, it ends by me going off on the person to let it go and leave it alone. 

Look, I get it, most people love holidays. That's fine and I don't want to take anything away from your experience. For me, it isn't a big deal. And any time I have tried to make a holiday a big deal, it fails and is a huge disappointment. Frankly, I'd rather the holiday underpromise and then overdeliver. Or that the holiday just passes with  minimum fuss. Maybe I'm fuct up lol. Maybe I have some unresolved childhood trauma. Either way, GO AWAY!! Bah Humgay!!
