Our unofficial leader sent out the sweetest gift for Christmas this year, a photo-book put together with lots of photos of us, lists of the books read each year, members past-and-present list, etc, to commemorate the 10 year anniversary. Wait, HOLD UP. 10 years??? Yep, on the real real. Now, I have only been a part of the group since 2005, so it has only been 8 years for me personally. It seems crazy to me to be a part of something like this for so long!! Also, who the hell ever thought that "8 years ago" and "2005" would go together??
We have averaged 10 books a year, which I think is incredible. I also read quite a bit on top of that, but that will be addressed in another post. All of the members are different but we all get along so well. It is great to have the chance to read SO MANY books that I would've never heard of otherwise. We have had a lot of babies born, breakups, make-ups, job changes, house changes, life changes in that time but we are still getting together, still meeting. I genuinely enjoy everyone (past and present) that is a part of BC Dallas and love love love our time together. It's like my treasure.
Our ranks have thinned out (see list of changes above) but I'm reluctant to add new people. Is that bad? I'm sort of protective of that time and am not sure how new people would change the dynamic. On the other hand, if we get down to 3 regular members, the group wouldn't be as fun.
How do you find quality people who also love books, aren't psycho and won't steal from the host's home? Is there a Craigslist section for bookish types with one free night a month and the ability to put up with some wacky discussions? Also, not everyone actually reads the book every time, which could be problematic to strict Type A personalities.
Anyhow, go read a book, it'll make your life better, I promise. If I am wrong, you can kick me in the face. I'm tall though, so you better have a mean HIGH KICK ready to go!
